The race for OU Student Government Association president and vice president concluded in a victory for candidates Carter Strickland and Avery Dunlap, according to unofficial results released Wednesday evening.

Strickland and Dunlap ran an unopposed campaign, the first time for SGA candidates since 2014.

As of 8:25 p.m., Strickland, a political science junior, and Dunlap, an economics and public and nonprofit administration junior obtained 91.06% percent of the vote, or 846 individuals.

Strickland and Dunlap’s campaign is REAL, standing for relationships with you, embracing the Southeastern Conference and arts, aiming for a stronger regional community and looking toward the future. Strickland and Dunlap said the heart of their campaign is the desire to improve the student experience.

In an email to OU Daily, Strickland said he and Dunlap are touched by the support they have received from the students.

“We would like to thank our supporters, campaign team, and the students, most importantly,” Strickland wrote. “Students voting, particularly during an uncontested election, shows the trust and faith they are placing in us.”

Action points of their campaign include attending registered student organization meetings, improving communication with university leadership, improving alcohol awareness services and advocating for students on a city and state level.

“Avery and I are incredibly honored to have this opportunity to represent you and we are very excited to get to work in the new year and start getting REAL,” Strickland wrote.

Strickland and Dunlap will replace SGA President Caden Glasscock and Vice President Cyrus Mortazavi one week after the validation of the election report.
