Professor Doug Gaffin named interim honors college dean

Professor Doug Gaffin was named the interim Honors College dean.

OU President David Boren named award-winning biology professor Doug Gaffin interim honors college dean at today's Board of Regents meeting.

Gaffin will take over for current honors college dean David Ray after Ray retires in December, according to a press release. Gaffin, the David Ross Boyd Professor of Biology, has served at OU in various capacities, including University College dean, since 1995. 

Gaffin heads a scorpion research lab on campus and currently serves as a Presidential Teaching Fellow in the honors college, according to the release. He is the recipient of the General Education Teaching Award and the Irene Rothbaum Award for top assistant professor of the College of Arts and Sciences.

“The entire university family has deep appreciation for Dean David Ray who has provided outstanding leadership for the Honors College for a decade,” Boren said in the press release. “While Dean Ray can never truly be replaced, we are fortunate that Dr. Gaffin has agreed to succeed him. Dr. Gaffin shares the same devotion to students and the same spirit of intellectual excitement.”
