While the snow and ice may have bought students a longer weekend, they have also made Norman roads much more treacherous.
Major Bruce Chan of the OUPD said the winter weather already caused one car accident at 7:30 a.m. on the north campus.

As the season continues, similar accidents will become more common. Since OU students come from all across the country, many may be unfamiliar with how to handle icy road conditions, Chan said.
He most important rule to keep in mind while driving in snow is to slow down, Chan said. He also reminds students to keep plenty of following distance between their vehicles, since ice may prevent drivers from braking to a halt right away.
