OU Women’s Health Advocacy’s fourth annual Menstrual Met Gala will be at 7 p.m. on March 6.
This year’s gala theme is “Advocacy in Action” and will consist of several guest speakers, according to a Tuesday email to OU Daily from Women’s Health Advocacy President Emma Evans.
At last year’s gala, panel speakers included Oklahoma House of Representatives Democratic Leader Cyndi Munson and numerous OU professors from different departments across campus.
“It is a formal evening designed to be engaging and impactful,” Evans wrote. “The event will include a catered dinner and a panel featuring advocates, researchers, and representatives from organizations across the Oklahoma City metro area.”
Evans wrote that the organization uses the gala as a platform to educate attendees about community advocacy.
“The intended outcome of the gala is to create an educational space where attendees can explore advocacy efforts in our community and feel empowered to take action,” Evans wrote.
The Women’s Health Advocacy group was established in 2020 as a nonprofit organization aimed to educate OU students on menstrual health. The organization supplies women’s bathrooms on campus with free menstrual products.
“Our mission is to provide educational resources to students on OU’s campus and to the greater Oklahoma communities,” Evans wrote. “Through product distribution, campus engagement, and educational events, WHA (Women’s Health Advocacy) works to ensure that access to menstrual health resources is never a barrier to opportunity, dignity, or success.”
Each guest will receive a goody bag with hygienic and menstrual products, according to Evans. Proceeds from the gala will be put towards the organization, but students can also bring menstrual product donations as a form of payment.
“Each ticket purchased directly contributes to our mission,” Evans wrote. “If someone does not want to make a monetary purchase, one ticket equals five individual menstrual products, and donations will be collected at the door!”
The gala will be on Headington Hall’s sixth floor. Tickets are on presale for $10 and will be $12 at the door.
