OU Skate Club’s second annual Skatelahoma skateboarding competition, featuring a lineup of local bands and vendors, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Andrews Park.
Dalton Parker, OU Skate Club president, said it felt necessary to have an event like this in Norman.
“It was kind of a must,” Parker said. “As a skate club, if we want to put ourselves out there, we need a really cool event to kind of (say), ‘Hey, this is who we are. This is what we’re doing.’”
Parker said the OU Skate Club has a great relationship with the Norman skating community.
“They’re awesome,” Parker said. “They help us with a lot of things, … and so this is kind of our way to be able to give back to them.”
The event will host local food trucks and vendors. Performing artists include Goliath, Black Magnolia, May This Sunday Be My Last and Peoria.
“It was a battle to get it done, but it was really awesome last year, so I’m hoping it’ll be the same this year,” Parker said.
Skatelahoma will be held at Blake Baldwin Skatepark on the east edge of Andrews Park. Competition registration will be open from 1 to 1:30 p.m., and categories include best run and highest air out. Admission is free.
