The OU Student Government Association inaugurated Caden Glasscock and Cyrus Mortazavi as its 2024 president and vice president Wednesday in the Oklahoma Memorial Union.

Glasscock, a business management junior, and Mortazavi, a business healthcare junior, named their campaign BLOOM: bridging the gap between SGA and students, leading us into the Southeastern Conference, optimizing student resources, our traditions and making your voice heard.

The Glasscock-Mortazavi ticket obtained 60.27% of the votes in the 2023 SGA presidential election in November over Shrey Kathuria, a community health junior, and Aniketh Koneru, a public relations junior. Glasscock and Mortazavi are replacing outgoing SGA President Chris Firch and Vice President Emelie Schultz.

Glasscock said he was grateful for being elected and expressed his unwavering commitment to the OU community.

“I make you this promise,” Glasscock said. “Every day that Cyrus and I hold these positions, we will continue to work tirelessly to make sure that this campus flourishes in every sense, fostering an environment where every student can thrive.”

Glasscock thanked his team and friends throughout his campaign.

“I stand before you humble, acknowledging that my presence on this stage is a direct result of the incredible individuals I share this campus with, from our amazing campaign team to the friends that have had the ability to uplift me throughout this process,” Glasscock said.

Firch said it had been an honor and privilege to serve OU’s campus. Firch thanked the efforts of his cabinet and campaign team and the support from OU faculty and staff.

“As I step down from this role, I do so with a sense of pride of what we’ve accomplished together,” Firch said.

Firch said he is excited to see Glasscock and Mortazavi take their place as president and vice president.

“Caden, Cyrus, it’s been such a pleasure watching both of you grow just in the past few weeks, and I’m so grateful that we have two students in this position who are intelligent, innovative and have such a deep passion and care for our incredible student body,” Firch said. “I have full confidence that the both of you will continue the legacy of positive change and progress, and I cannot wait to watch all that you do and cheer on the both of you.”

Outgoing SGA Vice President Emelie Schultz said she is grateful for her time in office and the opportunities she has had to improve the community. She said it was an honor to hand over the position to Mortazavi.

“Caden and Cyrus never stopped reimagining our community. We are so excited and proud of both of you … think not just outside but beyond the box, and do not be afraid of trusting yourself and your advisers around you … many students will look to you for support, advocacy and advice,” Schultz said. “Be there for them, not just represent them, but invite the students to be able to make their voices heard, to be part of these important discussions and together take the OU family to the next level.”

Mortazavi said as a first-generation student, he is committed to fostering an environment where every member of the OU community feels heard, valued and empowered.

“To my fellow students, I want to emphasize that you are the heartbeat of this university. Your dreams, aspirations and achievements are the driving force that makes the University of Oklahoma a beacon of hope and possibility,” Mortazavi said. “In my role as vice president, I am devoted to providing you with the support and resources necessary to excel in your academic pursuits and to bloom as individuals.”
