The Sam Noble Museum of Natural History will host a family-friendly event educating the community about monarch butterflies from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
“Curiousiday: Monarch Marvels” will explore the lives of monarch butterflies through activities, games and exhibits, according to a press release.
Alexander Mann, Sam Noble Museum’s public relations officer, said the event will include many features such as “an air cannon that blasts paper butterflies into the air” and ball-toss games with “pollen balls.”
“We do also have quite a few monarch butterflies out behind the museum this time of year,” Mann said. “We won’t have any inside the building due to some biological controls and restraints, but I think there is a pretty good chance of people being able to see a monarch or two.”
Curiousiday events are held monthly at Sam Noble and are designed to educate attendees. Each event has a unique theme that offers hands-on experiences for all ages. All Curiousiday events are included in the cost of general admission.

Laura Vaughn, head of education and community engagement at Sam Noble, wrote in a press release the Monarch Marvels event has been hosted by the museum for several years.
“It’s a great opportunity to celebrate with the public and show our visitors just how incredible these little insects really are,” Vaughn wrote. “Butterflies and all pollinators make the world a more colorful place, and by learning more about them we can also help protect them from challenges and threats they’re facing.”
