The second and third floors of the OU Delta Gamma house will be closed for the 2026-27 academic year after mold was discovered late last year.

Members moved out of the house before winter break after mold was discovered, Delta Gamma Director of Marketing and Communications Mallory Borino wrote in an email sent to OU Daily Feb. 5.

“Members living on the second and third floor moved out of the house before the winter break to allow for renovations after mold was discovered,” Borino wrote. “The house corporation board has decided to pause the current remediation work and take this opportunity to partner with architects and engineers to explore a more comprehensive renovation approach.”

The first floor of the house is still fully operational, but the second and third floors will remain closed for the 2026-27 year, according to Borino.

“We chose to make the decision early for the next academic year to allow those affected the time needed to explore alternative housing options and move forward with clarity for the remainder of the semester,” Borino wrote.

The Daily reached out to Associate Director of OU Student Life Kylie Frisby for comment, who directed questions to OU Marketing and Communications.

OU Marketing and Communications wrote in an email to the Daily Feb. 5 that the university does not oversee fraternity and sorority properties, but it is aware of the impact the closure will have on students.

“Fraternity and sorority houses at the University of Oklahoma are independently owned and operated by their respective organizations, and the University does not oversee the management, maintenance, or upkeep of these properties. University officials have been in communication with the organization’s leadership and are mindful of the impact on students,” OU Marketing and Communications wrote.

The Daily reached out to OU’s Delta Gamma President Kendall Meason for comment and was referred to Borino.

Cavins Constrution Group has been observed working on remediation efforts throughout winter break. The Oklahoma-based company specializes in both emergency disaster restoration and general construction services. Cavins Group’s discovery of mold at Norman Public Library Central led to the library’s temporary closure in 2023. The library remains indefinitely closed.
