OU Gaylord College student elected to serve national role in public relations organization

Joshua Lachica

An OU Gaylord College student was recently elected to hold a national position in a public relations student organization.

Joshua Lachica, a public relations sophomore and a Gaylord Ambassador, was elected to the Public Relations Student Society of America's 2016-17 National Committee as the vice president of public relations. The election was held as part of the annual PRSSA National Assembly in Austin, Texas from March 3-6.

One delegate per school attends the assembly in Austin, and this year, there were over 200 delegates. Facing an opponent for the position, Lachica was elected after a speech and a 15-minute questioning period.

“My platform to recognize diversity through the national media channels was what made me stand out,” Lachica said.

As vice president, Lachica's responsibilities include working with the president of PRSSA and the other vice presidents, as well as handling of all of the PRSSA social media channels and press releases for their national events.

“I was terribly pleased, but not terribly surprised, that Joshua was elected," said Robert Pritchard, the PRSSA adviser at OU. Pritchard said Lachica is a young professional and mature beyond his years.
