The OU Foundation has withdrawn its partnership with the City of Norman to build an arena on foundation-owned University North Park land.
At tonight’s full-house Norman City Council meeting, Mayor Lynne Miller informed the public that the OU Foundation had requested via email that a notable resolution — item No. 25 — be removed the agenda. The resolution sought to send the UNP project plan to a statutory review committee — a long-awaited step that would have contained strong implications about the project’s future.
With the vote, the resolution is off the agenda, and the controversial University North Park project is dead — at least in a public finance sense.

Many within the community were deeply skeptical of the project, and a records request regarding the proposal even lead to a lawsuit by former OU counsel Fred Gipson.
Though the OU Foundation has said they plan to pursue development of the land, tonight's vote means they will most likely do so without public financing.
