Oklahoma State scored another Bedlam victory over OU — this time in the battle of medical school popularity.
OU ranked fourth in U.S. News and World Report's list of the 10 most-popular medical schools while OSU was tied for No. 1 with the University of Kansas.
The number of students accepted who decided to enroll in each school formed the basis of the ranking. OSU and KU tied at 85.7 percent enrollment by those accepted. The OU College of Medicine saw 79.7 percent of accepted students enrolled in classes.
But despite the percentages, OU had more students enroll in its program this the year than OSU. The same report released by U.S. News and World Report showed OU had 165 medical students enroll to OSU's 96 students.
Ranking beneath OSU didn’t deter OU students like pre-med senior Matt Curry, who said he’s still confident in OU’s program.
“OSU is an OD, or Osteopathic Medicine, program, where OU is an MD, or Medical Doctor program,” Curry said. “Either way, you’re still a doctor, but for a long time, MD was seen as the better of the two."
Curry said people are beginning to be more relaxed about the comparison because both paths produce certified and qualified doctors.
More than 100 ranked medical schools released enrollment and acceptance information for the 2010-11 year, and the top-10 schools all had at least 74-percent acceptance-to-enrollment rates.
