Incumbent Scott Dixon will remain in the Ward 8 seat by default after running for city council uncontested.

According to the Cleveland County Election Board, if only one candidate files to run by the end of the filing period, they win by default.

In January, Dixon told OU Daily that he has learned a lot since the start of his first term. In 2024, Dixon defeated Kyle Hurley for the council seat, receiving 52.8% of the votes cast.

“The amount of things that I’ve learned in the year and a half that I’ve been doing it is just immense,” Dixon said. “I’ve been absolutely blown away at how phenomenal our professional city staff is. They’re amazing.”

Dixon said one of his top priorities for the city is passing a stormwater utility ordinance. He said the city needs more funding to fix flooding issues in the heart of Norman. He also supports building a new homeless shelter.

Some of Dixon’s policy positions can be found in OU Daily’s election guide.

Dixon wrote in a text to OU Daily that he will not be seeking reelection in two years.

“Everyone in Ward 8 agreed that I’m either the dumbest one of us or the craziest so they are making me do this another two years,” Dixon wrote. “This will be my last term as the Ward 8 Councilmember.”
