The Norman Police Department is investigating anti-Semitic and racist graffiti that was painted at various locations around Norman.
Swastikas were painted over the eyes of a statue of a human head at the park, with the word "Jewess" painted on the head with red paint from the forehead of the statue. Nearby on the concrete, racist language using the n-word was painted in red. The graffiti took place at Firehouse Art Center near Lions Park in Norman.
According to a Facebook post from Norman City Council member Kate Bierman, similar graffiti was found at the Cleveland County Democratic Party and at McKinley Elementary school.
Norman Police Department Public Information Officer Sarah Jensen said the department was notified of the graffiti very early in the morning and is currently investigating the issue.
By the time an OU Daily reporter arrived on at Firehouse Art Center at 9:10 a.m., workers were already cleaning up the graffiti.
The vandalism comes a week after the Oklahoma Democratic Party headquarters in Oklahoma City, as well as the city's Chickasaw Nation office were vandalized with Nazi graffiti and white supremacist language.
