Norman City Council will hear a presentation on the Central Oklahoma Long Range Transit Plan, consider increasing a contract amount with Oklahoma Gas and Electric for the Jenkins Avenue widening project and settle a claim filed against the city for personal injuries at its Tuesday conference and regular meetings.
Central Oklahoma transit plan
During its conference meeting, council will review updates on the Central Oklahoma Long Range Transit Plan.
The presentation includes a project description, draft transit vision, and details to get involved and provide feedback on the project.
The Central Oklahoma Long Range Transit Plan outlines a plan to improve the transit network across central Oklahoma by providing connections between regional transit services and improving various modes of travel.
Jenkins widening bond project
Council will consider increasing the contract amount between the city of Norman and OG&E for the Jenkins Avenue widening bond project.
According to the agenda, the contract would be increased by $144,585, amounting to $552,167.22 for relocating overhead power lines underground.
The Jenkins Avenue project began construction on March 3 as part of a 2019 bond issue approved by Norman voters. The project aims to widen Jenkins Avenue from Lindsey Street to Timberdell Road to a four-lane roadway, improve storm drainage pipelines and improve sidewalks.
Settlement
Council will also consider a settlement of $100,000 to resolve a claim filed by Misty Dawn Dean for personal injury damages from a car accident involving a city vehicle on March 28.
According to documents included on the agenda, Dean initially demanded $125,000 for injury damages, which was reviewed and discussed by city staff during an April 29 executive session.
If approved by council, a friendly suit will be filed by the Cleveland County District Court aiming to reduce the settlement to a judgment and allow for it to be placed on the property tax rolls and paid over the next three years.
Appointments
Council will consider appointments to the Board of Adjustment, Historic District Commission, Library Board, Norman Regional Hospital Authority and the Social and Voluntary Services Committee.
According to the staff report, Eric Williams and Matt Graves will be considered for the Board of Adjustment. Kendel Posey will be considered for the Historic District Commission. Evan Taylor, Eric White, Debra Engel and Sue Ringus will be considered for the Library Board.
David Nimmo, president and CEO of Chickasaw Nation Industries and a petitioner against the Rock Creek Entertainment district referendum petition, will be considered for the Norman Regional Hospital Authority along with Andy Sherrer, regional president of First United Bank.
Karen Webb will be considered for the Social and Voluntary Services Committee.
Food truck park redevelopment
Council will also consider an amendment to the existing site development plans for 227 West Main St., which currently contains an office building and part of the food truck park.
The amendment would remove two eastern lots from the existing development plan with plans to sell them, according to the application packet.
The amendment would also replace a portion of the food truck park with parking on the east side of the existing structure.
