Microsoft Office 365 clutter function generates disorder for OU email users

Cluttered space

With the new Microsoft Office 365 email system, some messages are being sent to students' clutter box rather than their inbox. According to OU IT, the clutter function is from Microsoft Office 365.

Moving OU's email system to Microsoft Office 365 has caused some confusion as people struggle to adjust to the clutter function, but there is nothing OU Information Technology can do to change it.

The clutter function is a Microsoft Office 365 feature, a folder based on user activity. For example, if there is a type of email that keeps getting deleted, the feature will automatically transfer the email to the clutter folder.

Recently, OU IT has found that even emails people want are getting sent to the clutter folder. Courtney Kneifl, the marketing and communications manager for OU IT, said the function is from Microsoft Office 365, so there is nothing IT can do to modify or change it.

“It is a good idea to check our clutter folder to make sure something we need is not going in there," Kneifl said. “For the most part I like the feature, but I think we all need to be careful so that we aren’t missing anything.”
