NBC Nightly News special correspondent Tom Brokaw has postponed his acceptance of the 2013 Gaylord Prize for the second time due to unforeseen circumstances.
Brokaw was scheduled to visit campus and receive his award Nov. 24, but the visit has been rescheduled for sometime after Jan. 1, said Catherine Bishop, OU’s vice president of public affairs, in an email. The new date will be announced as soon as it is determined.
Brokaw was first scheduled to receive the award in Sept. 2013 during the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication Alumni Centennial Celebration. However, a scheduling conflict interfered, and he postponed his appearance until the spring semester.
The Gaylord Prize honors nationally or internationally known journalists with distinguished careers who have demonstrated talent, morality and ethics.
The college began giving away the prize in 2008 and has honored journalists such as Jim Lehrer of PBS’s NewsHour and Brian Lamb, founder and CEO of C-SPAN.
The college will not nominate a 2014 Gaylord Prize winner, Bishop said in an email. The prize is not given out annually, but rather when an impressive journalist deserving the award has been identified.
