...HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM CDT FRIDAY...

* WHAT...Air temperatures and heat indices up to 110. Low
temperatures only drop to about 80 each morning.

* WHERE...Portions of central, east central, northern, northwest,
southeast, southern, southwest, and western Oklahoma and northern
Texas.

* WHEN...Until 8 PM CDT Friday.

* IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat
illnesses.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose
fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning
or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke.

Breea Clark wins Norman mayoral election, defeats two other candidates

Norman residents have elected Breea Clark, director of the OU JCPenney Leadership Center, as the city’s new mayor, according to unofficial results from the state election board.

Clark, who has also been the Ward 6 councilwoman since 2016, secured 51.43 percent of the vote against opponents Bill Hickman and Evan Dunn, according to the Oklahoma State Election Board. 

"We did our best to include the community and get the young people involved, and I think that made all the difference," Clark said of her campaign. 

Clark said it was a quick, interesting campaign and that people, not money, win elections. 

Hickman, who has been Ward 4 councilman since 2016, ended with 45.02 percent of the vote, and Dunn, a community activist, took 3.55 percent of the vote.

In Norman, the mayor serves a three-year term. The results are contingent on the county election board declaring the results valid by 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15.
