The newest club in Bricktown is now open. Bricktown 54 features’70s and ’80s discotheque music.
The club’s walls are adorned with pictures from the’70s and ’80s. The ceiling has disco balls hanging fromit.
“Everything in here is supposed strike a memorychord,” general manager Erin Watson said.
Some of the pictures on walls included Michael Jackson andPrince. The club even played M.C. Hammer. However, most of the’70s pictures and music did not bring back memories for manypatrons.
“It makes me feel like I’m a part of the Studio 54era,” said Tyrone Bell, mechanical engineering senior.“The music is the main thing I like.”
The ’70s and ’80s motif is the first thing thatstands out about this club. The second is the people.
It doesn’t take long to notice that this club attracts anolder crowd of people, atypical of your average college studentclub.
“We get anywhere from 21 to 70, but the market we aim foris 25- to 35- years-old,” Watson said.
Bricktown 54 is the first club of its kind in Oklahoma City,Watson said. The minimum age requirement for a Wednesday, Fridayand Saturday night is 23.
“The 23 and older thing is discriminatory against collegestudents and they need to lower their beer prices,” said
Travis Cook, management information systems junior. “ThisBudweiser was $2.75, but it’s a really unique clubatmosphere.”
The club caters to a working-class clientele, Watson said. Theprice of drinks reflects that.
The club also features an “After Work Extravaganza”every Wednesday and Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.
This is a happy hour with a full-dinner buffet. The happy houris open to those 23 and older and will offer a 30- foot“disco dinner” buffet and $1.50 domestic longnecks.
However, those under 23 need not worry, because Thursday is“Back to the Future” night where anyone 21 and oldercan enter. The music format also changes on Thursday night toinclude current music along with the ’70s and ’80sretro music.
Cover charge is always $5, except on Thursday, the club has freecover until 9 p.m.
The club is next to the Southwestern Bell Bricktown Ballpark andfour stories above the Bricktown Canal. Bricktown 54 has awrap-around balcony with tables, chairs and benches outside.
“It’s really nice out here,” marketinggraduate Carlo Rich said. “It’s not too crowded and theview over the canal is really nice.”
Although the crowd is a little different from the type of crowdmost students are used to, the atmosphere and music areexcellent.
Watson said Bricktown 54 is more of an upscale club.
“We want to provide a nice, fun place and not have toworry about fights and problem people,” Watson said.hello there & you too
