The lecture, “The American West in the Camargue: Film, Material Culture and Regionalist Primitivism, c. 1912," will take place at 7 p.m. this Friday at the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art. The lecture will be given by Emily C. Burns, assistant art history professor from Auburn University, discussing the American West.
Burns's lecture will focus on connections from the early 20th century portrayal of the American West and Native Americans from French and U.S. perspective through art and popular culture.
The lecture is free of charge and open to the public and is presented by the OU Visual Arts School in conjunction with the Charles M. Russell Center for the Study of Art of the American West. It is part of the Merkel Family Foundation lecture series.
