In anticipation of the flood of OU and Ohio State fans coming to Norman for the monumental football game Sept. 17, several Campus Corner and Main Street restaurants are increasing their beer orders.
Keith Allen, owner of Brothers Eatery & Pub, said the restaurant is at least doubling its beer orders.
“We anticipate this is going to be right up there with the Tennessee, Notre Dame, UCLA, etc., but even more (people),” Allen said.
Both Allen and Jeff Stewart, general manager of O'Connell's Irish Pub & Grille, said they are comparing this matchup to past OU home games against Tennessee and Notre Dame when deciding how much to order.
“We’re probably going to compare it to either Notre Dame or Tennessee, those are the numbers we’ll go by, and up them by 10 percent," Stewart said. "That’s considerably more than other game days.”
Seven47 owner Hunter Mankin said he is ordering 25 to 50 percent more beer than the largest recent game day to make sure the restaurant does not run out.
“We will be ordering more on basically everything that we sell. Based on other home games, I would say we are treating this like it will be our biggest,” Mankin said.
Restaurants on Main Street are upping their beer orders as well. Perry Kixmiller, manager of The Garage, said the restaurant is also increasing its supply orders and staff starting Thursday.
“We do bump up our supplies on everything: food, alcohol, we even bump up our staff as far as how many people we have on,” Kixmiller said.
Laura Gmeiner, manager of Das Boot Camp, said the restaurant is making more beer than it normally would for the game but not more than it would for other home games.
"We’ve taken into consideration everything that’s going on in Norman this weekend and we’re definitely preparing to have plenty of extra stuff just in case," Gmeiner said. "Honestly, we’re not necessarily treating it different, but with any home game we bring in extra staff because they’re so unpredictable."
Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump will also be in Norman Sept. 17 for a fundraiser event.
