Oklahoma (52-6, 22-5 Big 12) defeated Oregon (30-21, 13-10 Pac-12) 3-2 on Sunday in the Norman Regional.

Oklahoma advances to the Super Regionals for the 14th consecutive season after grinding out a win on Sunday against the Ducks, defeating them for the second time in as many days.

Here are three takeaways from the Sooners’ win:

Top of the order sets the tone

The Sooners top three in the order did most of the damage .

Senior outfielder Jayda Coleman and freshman utility Ella Parker started the party early with back-to-back singles, then freshman outfielder Kasidi Pickering drove home Coleman on a sacrifice fly.

Coleman, Parker and senior infielder Tiare Jennings had all of the Sooners hits through the first four innings, after Rylie Boone ended the drought with a single in the fifth. The top three in the order drove in two of the three runs scored on the day.

Coleman led the Sooners offensively on Sunday, going 3 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored. She brought home sophomore infielder Avery Hodge after Hodge worked a 12 pitch at-bat that ended in a hit by pitch. Coleman is now batting .407 this season with 12 home runs and 42 RBIs.

"I never feel like it's on me," Coleman said. "Just being free and swinging hard and trusting the process."

Nicole May bounces back after two-run third

Entering the bottom of the fourth, senior pitcher Nicole May went right back to work.

Through the first two innings, May did not allow a baserunner to reach and struck out three Ducks.

Following a solo home run by Tehya Bird and another Oregon run scoring in the third inning, May retired six of her next seven batters faced, including three strikeouts in the fourth.

May’s outing was concluded after five innings. She gave up five hits, two runs (one earned) and struck out six on 73 pitches. She pitched 10 innings this weekend and allowed two runs, eight hits and struck out 15 batters.

"Nicole May went to another place for the series and we're really excited about that," head coach Patty Gasso said. "We're really excited about that, taking that (further into) postseason."

Kelly Maxwell comes up clutch

After throwing 101 pitches in OU's win vs Oregon, graduate left-hander Kelly Maxwell was brought in to get the last six outs against the Ducks.

Throwing the full seven innings on, Maxwell delivered once again. She only gave up one hit in her two innings pitched and struck out two.

With the performance on Sunday, Maxwell has now thrown 23 innings against the Ducks in her career and is 3-0 and has struck out 33 batters and has only given up one run.

"We've worked on being decisive and I think that was the word of the day," Maxwell said. "Nicole May started with that, and I think I just wanted to pick her up in that moment and have her back."

Next, the Sooners will face either Auburn or Florida State in the Super Regionals beginning on Friday at Love’s Field.
