PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and
Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in
shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat
should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an
emergency! Call 9 1 1.

...AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM TO 10 PM CDT TUESDAY...

The following statement was issued by the Oklahoma Department of
Environmental Quality from 10 AM to 10 PM CDT Tuesday.

An Air Quality Alert for Ozone has been issued for Tuesday, August 25
for the Oklahoma City Metropolitan area due to expected high
concentrations of ozone.

Public Health Recommendations: Persons with existing heart or
respiratory ailments should reduce physical exertion and outdoor
activity.

The general public is encouraged to help alleviate the problem by
reducing vehicle miles traveled by riding the bus, carpooling, or
avoiding unnecessary trips. The public is also asked to avoid
refueling during the morning and early afternoon hours, and to avoid
the use of two cycle engines such as lawn mowers, motorcycles, weed
trimmers, and outboard engines. It is also advised to limit outdoor
burning.

OU men’s tennis looks forward to national championship after historic season

The Oklahoma men’s tennis team nabbed the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA tournament for the first time in school history and is set to face the New Mexico State in the first round of the tournament.

This match comes just a few days after the Sooners won the Big 12 Conference Tournament for the third time in four years.

Coach John Roddick believes his team is ready for the NCAA Tournament.

“The guys are ready for the NCAA Tournament and the postseason we have all been waiting for,” he said. “We are not satisfied, and we want to win.”

The 2015 season was one of high expectations for the team, and it has not disappointed. You can ask any coach or player, and they will tell you the same thing — there were four main goals at the beginning of the season: to win the ITA National Indoor Championships, the Big 12 regular season championship, the Big 12 conference tournament championship and the NCAA national championship. So far, this team is three for three on goals.

The team has won, or shared, all three championships so far, and even won the Oracle Classic tournament in Indian Wells, California. This team has simply met or exceeded every goal that has come before them.

“Winning the tournament after tying for the regular season was our way of putting a stamp on this conference,” Roddick said. “Getting some play and experience on the same courts that will host the NCAAs is a great advantage for us as well.”

Sophomore Andrew Harris echoed Roddick.

“We were disappointed when we had to share the Big 12 (regular season) championship,” Harris said. “But we are feeling really good and I think everyone has been playing really well.”

The final goal is the 2015 NCAA Championships, where the Sooners will be the No. 1 overall seed for the first time in school history. In addition, as Roddick said, the NCAA Tournament will be in Waco, Texas, where the Sooners are 3-0 this season.

“We were lucky to get to play there twice,” Harris said. “We will definitely have an edge if we make it to the Sweet 16.”

Looking forward, the Sooners are a favorite to win the national championship. This team has achieved every goal it has set out to accomplish, except the NCAA championship.

“We want that perfect season,” Harris said. “If we could win the NCAA Tournament, it would be a dream-come-true to achieve every goal we set out for.”

The Sooners' next match is May 8 against New Mexico State at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.
