No. 1 OU women’s gymnastics (18-1-1) finished second in the Southeastern Conference Championship against No. 3 Florida (15-2-0), No. 2 LSU (12-5-1) and No. 4 Alabama (9-8-0) Saturday, with the Gators winning 198.175-198.150-197.950-197.475.
Despite OU holding a lead entering the final rotation, the Gators logged the highest bars score of 2026 on their final rotation to defeat OU by 0.025 points.
Here are three takeaways:
Faith Torrez scores perfect 10
In her final SEC meet, OU senior Faith Torrez scored a perfect 10 on balance beam.
Torrez, who entered the meet ranked No. 3 in the country on beam, scored her first 10 of the season. This score pushed the Sooners to the highest team beam score of the event. In her only other event, Torrez led the Sooners with a 9.95 on bars.
However, Torrez’s high scores were not enough to earn OU the win.
Close finish
After starting with their lowest score of the season on vault, the Sooners performed well to finish the meet.
They tied their season high on bars, with Torrez and freshman Ella Murphy both at 9.95. The Sooners also led the meet on their final two events with a 49.625 on beam and a 49.6 on floor.
Despite this strong finish, it was not enough to stop the late rush from the Gators, who scored a 10 and two 9.975’s in their final rotation on bars. The meet came down to the final routine, where OU freshman Mackenzie Estep scored only a 9.950 on floor. That tied her career high on floor but caused OU to fall just short of the SEC title.
SEC individual champions
While OU did not win the SEC championship, multiple Sooners won individual titles during the meet.
Torrez won the SEC beam championship with her perfect score, while Estep and junior Keira Wells finished as part of a four-way tie for the SEC floor championship on a 9.95.
The Sooners will now look ahead to the NCAA women’s gymnastics tournament. While the Sooners are locked to make the field, the women’s gymnastics selection show on March 23 will determine the regional they will compete in. Regionals will be held April 1-5.
