No. 1 Oklahoma beat No. 6 Michigan and No. 14 Simpson 327.700-326.400-285.550 Saturday night in Norman.

The Sooners (10-1) took down the Wolverines (6-3) and the Storm (2-9) on senior day as senior Brigham Frentheway led the way.

On the still rings, senior Brigham Frentheway stuck and scored a 13.850 for a career high. Senior Matthew Burgoyne scored a 14.150, while freshman Francisco Velez Belendez, who was named the CGA Rookie of the Week, anchored with a score of 14.000. The Sooners went on to win the event 55.450-54.800-49.450.

“It was, I would say, euphoric … I wouldn’t say the beginning of my career was the best; it had a lot of rough spots. My family hadn’t been able to come to a lot of home meets, and so for my siblings, this was their first home meet, so being able to do that was awesome,” Frentheway said.

On vault, Frentheway earned a score of 14.050, while senior Emre Dodanli finished with a score of 14.200. In his first event back after recovering from thumb surgery, redshirt junior Fuzzy Benas stuck and scored a 14.350. Benas claimed the individual highest scorer and helped win the event 56.050-55.800-53.150.

“I didn’t know how much I missed it until I was here and doing it. There’s no way to replicate the feeling of competing at home for your own crowd. Not only that but just doing your job and doing exactly what I came here to do ... There’s no greater feeling,” Benas said.

Leading off on high bar, redshirt freshman Brandon Zepeda-Orth scored a career-high 13.850. Junior Kelton Christiansen stuck his dismount ,scoring a 14.050, and senior Emre Dodanli anchored with a score of 13.800, clinching the overall win on the Sooner’s last performance of the night.

Next, Oklahoma will compete in the Winter Cup Friday-Sunday in Louisville, Kentucky.
