This comes after the Sooners defeated Tennessee, the No. 25 team in the rankings, 33-27 at Neyland Stadium.
The current standings make them the second team out due to the five highest-ranked conference champions earning automatic bids. They are the No. 6 Southeastern Conference team in the rankings. The SEC programs in consideration are as follows:
• No. 3 Texas A&M (8-0, 5-0)
• No. 4 Alabama (7-1, 5-0)
• No. 5 Georgia (7-1, 5-1)
• No. 6 Mississippi (8-1, 5-1)
• No. 11 Texas (7-2, 4-1)
• No. 12 OU
• No. 16 Vanderbilt (7-2, 3-2)
• No. 22 Missouri (6-2, 3-2)
• No. 25 Tennessee (6-3, 3-3)
The Sooners will face No. 4 Alabama on Nov. 15, No. 22 Missouri on Nov. 22 and Louisiana State University on Nov. 29 to close out the regular season.
The next College Football Playoff rankings will be released Nov. 11 at 6 p.m.
