...AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM TO 10 PM CDT FRIDAY...

The following statement was issued by the Oklahoma Department of
Environmental Quality.

An Air Quality Alert for Ozone has been issued for Friday, August 28
for the Oklahoma City Metropolitan area due to expected high
concentrations of ozone.

Public Health Recommendations: Persons with existing heart or
respiratory ailments should reduce physical exertion and outdoor
activity.

The general public is encouraged to help alleviate the problem by
reducing vehicle miles traveled by riding the bus, carpooling, or
avoiding unnecessary trips. The public is also asked to avoid
refueling during the morning and early afternoon hours, and to avoid
the use of two cycle engines such as lawn mowers, motorcycles, weed
trimmers, and outboard engines. It is also advised to limit outdoor
burning.

Oklahoma men's gymnastics: Three Sooners nominated for yearly gymnast awards

Earlier this season, senior Hunter Justus was nominated for the Nissen-Emmery award, joining him now are freshman Gage Dyer, and juniors Yul Moldauer and Genki Suzuki.

Dyer is a nominee for rookie of the year after becoming a strong addition to the Sooners this season. Showing consistent improvement throughout each of the Sooners’ seven meets, he has answered any questions regarding his pivotal role as an all-arounder. He’s combined for seven scores of 14.000 or higher on vault and floor and currently holds a career-high 14.900 on vault.

Moldauer is a renowned gymnastics champion who has made three consecutive appearances on the U.S. Men’s Senior National Team after stellar performances at the Winter Cup in Las Vegas, Nevada. He owns 15 event titles in just this season earning the nation’s highest all-around score and ranking first on still rings (14.650) and parallel bars (14.933). Moldauer also picked up his second consecutive American Cup championship this season making him a heavily favored nominee for the MVP award.

Suzuki is another great performer on the Sooners’ roster known for anchoring high bar in several meets, which is usually their final performance of every meet. Suzuki currently ranks No. 1 on high bar and holds an average of 14.500 for the event and the nation’s highest score (14.950) making him a candidate for this year’s specialist of the year award.

These awards, along with the Nissen-Emery Award, will be presented at the 2018 NCAA Men’s Gymnastics Championship Banquet in Chicago, Illinois on Thursday, April 19.

The Sooners now set their eyes on the start of post season Saturday, April 7 with the MPSF Championships in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The team will be going for it’s seventh consecutive conference title on its way to a possible fourth consecutive national championship.
