...AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM TO 10 PM CDT FRIDAY...

The following statement was issued by the Oklahoma Department of
Environmental Quality.

An Air Quality Alert for Ozone has been issued for Friday, August 28
for the Oklahoma City Metropolitan area due to expected high
concentrations of ozone.

Public Health Recommendations: Persons with existing heart or
respiratory ailments should reduce physical exertion and outdoor
activity.

The general public is encouraged to help alleviate the problem by
reducing vehicle miles traveled by riding the bus, carpooling, or
avoiding unnecessary trips. The public is also asked to avoid
refueling during the morning and early afternoon hours, and to avoid
the use of two cycle engines such as lawn mowers, motorcycles, weed
trimmers, and outboard engines. It is also advised to limit outdoor
burning.

Oklahoma men's gymnastics: Sooners rally for seventh consecutive MPSF championship

The Sooners came into Colorado Springs Saturday evening with the mindset of taking home their seventh consecutive MPSF title. After going undefeated and retaining the NCAA's longest win streak (85) the Sooners were a heavy favorite, ultimately winning the title after rallying back.

After one rotation the Sooners fell back to second place behind Air Force, who was competing in its own gym. Things continued to look down for the Sooners after the second rotation when they fell back into third.

For awhile, it was looking like the Sooners win streak was in jeopardy, but the tide turned in the third rotation when the team made up some ground on still rings. Junior Yul Moldauer put up a season high 15.050 on still rings giving the Sooners a total of 70.300 on the event and launching them into first place.

From then on, the meet was a dominant showing of athleticism from the Sooners as they continued to increase their lead while the meet drew toward its conclusion. 

The Sooners not only came out with another MPSF championship but also another award for Moldauer who took home MPSF gymnast of the year. Coach Mark Williams was also awarded coach of the year, his 14th ever and fourth consecutive. 

With one final job left for the Sooners, they will head to Chicago, Illinois to compete for what would be their fourth consecutive national championship, sending off seniors Hunter Justus and Reese Rickett without a single loss in their NCAA careers.
