...AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM TO 10 PM CDT FRIDAY...

The following statement was issued by the Oklahoma Department of
Environmental Quality.

An Air Quality Alert for Ozone has been issued for Friday, August 28
for the Oklahoma City Metropolitan area due to expected high
concentrations of ozone.

Public Health Recommendations: Persons with existing heart or
respiratory ailments should reduce physical exertion and outdoor
activity.

The general public is encouraged to help alleviate the problem by
reducing vehicle miles traveled by riding the bus, carpooling, or
avoiding unnecessary trips. The public is also asked to avoid
refueling during the morning and early afternoon hours, and to avoid
the use of two cycle engines such as lawn mowers, motorcycles, weed
trimmers, and outboard engines. It is also advised to limit outdoor
burning.

Oklahoma men's gymnastics: Sooners heading to MPSF Championships

No. 1 Oklahoma has been on a success streak lasting for 88 wins, the longest current win streak in the NCAA. Their success has led them to the MPSF Championships in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where they will go for their seventh consecutive MPSF title.

The MPSF consists of Oklahoma, Air Force, Stanford and California and although the Sooners have bested both Stanford and California this season, their season opener with Air Force was canceled due to a government shutdown. 

"We have to put our mind in the gym," said freshman Gage Dyer. "We do this every single day and it shouldn't be anything different from what we've done at home." 

With fresh faces and veterans performing with great poise throughout the season, the Sooners will be one of the biggest concerns for teams going into conference play and nationals.

It's no surprise the Sooners have been successful this season with star gymnasts like junior Yul Moldauer and senior Hunter Justus paving the way for the dynasty they've created. Justus is currently a nominee for the Nissen-Emery, the highest honor an individual can earn in gymnastics and Moldauer is a world-renowned gymnastics champion. 

Other gymnasts, like junior Levi Anderson, have been a big part of the season by filling big holes in the lineup as well. Anderson has stepped into a new role as an all-around competitor adding a whole new dynamic to an already impressive Sooner squad. Sophomore Tanner Justus who has been practicing to be an all-around gymnast in the future.

"We've been nervous for every meet this season, so this is nothing new," said Anderson. "If we treat this like every other meet and perform to standard, we should win."

The MPSF Championships take place in Colorado Springs, Colorado on Saturday at 6 p.m. CT. With a win, the Sooners will be on their way to the NCAA Championships and possibly their fourth consecutive national championship.
