Oklahoma football: Sooners top SI's too-early Top 25 rankings

With the conclusion of spring games, football fans and media alike have turned their focus on the upcoming 2016 season, including Sports Illustrated who ranked the Sooners at the top of their “too-early Top 25” released Thursday morning.

Colin Becht of Sports Illustrated has Oklahoma at No. 1 due to the number of returning starters and Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield’s potential improvement. The Sooners lost three starters at linebacker, but there are game-ready replacements in Ogbonnia Okoronkwo and Caleb Kelly, Becht said.

Becht also believes the Sooners will see offensive improvement in the second year of Lincoln Riley's air-raid offense. 

The Sooners are followed by Alabama at No. 2, while Florida State, Clemson and Ohio State hold the remaining spots in the top five.

The Big 12 claims four of the top 25 spots with Baylor being the only other Big 12 school to make it into the top 10 at No. 10. TCU rounds out the top 15 at No. 15, and OSU comes in at No. 22.
