The United Way of Norman partnered with the OU Food Pantry to provide more produce and canned goods for students.
Ten percent of OU's United Way Campaign funds will go towards the OU Food Pantry, according to a press release from OU Division of Student Affairs.
The United Way of Norman funds 24 partner agencies that provide 34 programs in the Norman area. Matt Marks, OU Food Pantry adviser and campus care coordinator, said the pantry is excited about the partnership with the United Way.
“This is an opportunity for everyone at the university to come together and not only support a great organization in United Way, but to get 10% of the proceeds to the food pantry. This is a great time to really come together and support our community in a very meaningful way,” Marks wrote in the release.
David Surratt, OU’s vice president for Student Affairs and dean of students, said the partnership is a good example of the university’s collaboration with the Norman community.
“The OU Food Pantry's alignment with fighting food insecurity and supporting basic needs is a great compliment to the mission of the United Way and I am proud of OU for sharing a portion of funds raised with our OU Food Pantry team in the Division of Student Affairs," Surratt wrote in the release.
The campaign began Sept. 18 and will run through Dec. 15.
