After the announcement of Cate Restaurants closing, OU students and alumni took to Twitter to express their frustrations.
Though Dave Annis, housing and food director, said in an email to The Daily that Cate was a good place for freshmen students, most people seem to believe that it was an ideal place to eat for freshmen and upperclassmen.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. NO. NO. NO. GOD WHY. NO.

THEY JUST GOT A NEW WAFFLE MAKER. I LITERALLY JUST PERFECTED MY SANDWICH ORDER. WHO WOULD DO THIS https://t.co/lqf4uGkcmR
i am HEARTBROKEN. where are the RAs supposed to go to temporarily escape freshman in Aug/Sep when all they know exists is the caf? why is there nothing good left in the world https://t.co/xeR8GeBeog

Can't believe I'm about to be the Mad Alumnus Online but this is STUPID. Cate was a wonderful place to grab a quick lunch salad or dinner pancakes and Cross is way too damn far away from campus!! https://t.co/KVg6MsfLQE

Students have been asking for more affordable housing options for years. Sad—but unsurprising—to see the university going in the opposite direction https://t.co/UEtw66KWCZ

Aww man how sad...

I used to hit up the hot bar and the sandwich place, the memories. https://t.co/EdA4yD45r0
No more chocolate chip pancakes?😩😩😩 https://t.co/wv1Iw4mj0u

rip in peace, cate https://t.co/i32rCQQ37a

And just like that, an integral part of my OU life has bit the dust.

See ya in another life, hot bar & sandwich place. https://t.co/scyH4qSWox
Wow it’s great that the only food options on campus now are either at the most northern and southern ends of campus.

Oh AND there’s no cheaper option for on-campus living? Especially since freshman students are essentially required to live on campus?? Cool. https://t.co/XDVq4LdxJ4
As a student with a serious gluten allergy (who was required to have a meal plan as a freshman), Cate Restaurants were the only place on campus where I felt safe eating. The nature of the Caf makes even the limited gluten free options susceptible to cross-contamination. https://t.co/9xXc1NGZDd

Cate closes as Cross opens. Did housing and food costs for OU students just go up? https://t.co/C8AIQBkgaT

Fire a bunch of higher ups? Ok, cool. Open up new residence halls knowing it won't be filled? Whatever. Close down the restaurants in Cate Main that provided life sustenance for almost every meal my freshman year? HOW FREAKING DARE THEY. https://t.co/XgFiwTnF3y

But like...they just added crepes to their menu. Worst day ever. https://t.co/oUfUR6ddsH

Leave it to @OU_HRL to make last minute changes, not communicate with workers, and try to force people to eat at their new building because they can’t let Cross be a complete failure. This is ridiculous. https://t.co/jtrAWgSpdY
