Design for proposed South Greek condos.

Development for proposed condo units in the South Greek area is slated to begin construction this summer.

The site previously intended to be The Revv apartment complex is now part of a proposed development designed by architect and Ward 2 Councilmember Matthew Peacock.

The proposed development would be located one block south of Lindsey Street between Chautauqua Avenue and College Avenue, according to a letter sent to nearby property owners.

The development would include eight buildings of residential condos and amenities with 108 total bedrooms, Peacock wrote in an email to OU Daily Monday. He wrote that the units are geared toward people who have “outgrown roommates.”

“We also see this project as a pathway to home ownership for a generation that currently has little to no path towards that life goal,” Peacock wrote. “We propose addressing that by providing smaller units at an affordable price point.”

Peacock wrote the complex would provide housing options to a wide range of Norman residents.

“There is an endless supply of young talent graduating from the university each year, but the majority of them do not stay in Norman. … Vice versa, there is also an epidemic of older Americans wanting to age in place, but cannot do so because of (an) inability to keep up with large single family houses on the edge of town, …” Peacock wrote. “Both groups deserve real housing solutions and real community, and the mixing of ages and demographics is what makes a community vibrant and healthy.”

According to Peacock, some houses on the site would be removed for the development, but most of the intended site is empty.

If the rezoning application is approved by city council, Peacock wrote the project would begin construction in the summer with a tentative opening scheduled for late 2027.

Norman’s Department of Planning and Community Development will host a discussion for residents who live near the site at 6 p.m. Thursday at 225 N. Webster Ave.
