Zaxby’s chicken restaurant plans to bring the taste of the southeast kitchen to Norman.
The fast food restaurant is expanding west but staying true to its roots by establishing a location on Main Street, replacing the Long John Silvers previously in its space.
Zaxby’s franchisee Sterling Coleman said the chicken diner started on the Georgia Southern University campus and experienced huge success, and that equal success it expected in Norman.
“Zaxby’s originally started on a college campus, we showed a lot of success so we believe that near another college campus it can be successful too," he said.
The new Zaxby’s will compete with similar restaurants in the area like Raising Cane’s by offering variety and healthier food, Coleman said. They also plan to promote their features like the corporate style design and the new Coca-Cola machines.
“The Coca-Cola machines have had positive responses... Our corporate style for the restaurant is clean and welcoming and this will also attract students," Coleman said.
The restaurant's partnership with OU athletics will hopefully be the kickstart to its success, Coleman said. The Zaxby’s logo will appear at football games and other events to promote the restaurant, he said.
The Norman Zaxby’s will serve its original menu and begin its hiring process soon. The restaurant will open its doors July 13.
