On March 15, the OU Publications Board unanimously selected Nick Hazelrigg to serve as The Daily’s editor-in-chief for the 2019-2020 school year.
Hazelrigg, a political science junior, currently serves as the news managing editor. Hazelrigg said he is excited for the opportunity to lead the newsroom and continue working to provide quality journalism to the OU community.
“The OU Daily has been a very special place for me in my collegiate experience and I just want to help it continue to be a place that is special for other people like me,” Hazelrigg said. “And I want to continue to serve our readers, since they are the most important part of what we do here.”
Hazelrigg has worked at The Daily since spring 2017, previously serving as the summer 2018 editor-in-chief, assistant news managing editor, news editor and a news reporter covering the presidential transition.
Current editor-in-chief Emma Keith said her previous work experience with Hazelrigg has showcased his initiative and dedication.
“I think he’s going to be a very stable presence in the newsroom and will continue to push us forward and build our trust in the community,” Keith said. “I think a lot of people trust The Daily because they trust Nick and are willing to come to him with issues they wouldn’t have come to us with a few years ago.”
Hazelrigg, an Owasso native, said his plans include effectively managing the merging of the OU Daily newsroom and the Student Media features division, as well as upping the quality of content for the community.
“I want this paper to continue to be the best publication to follow if you’re interested in news about the university, whether that be sports or the administration or the local arts scene,” Hazelrigg said.
