The election for Campus Activities Council chair has ended in victory for junior Kennedy Corbin, according to unofficial election results.
Corbin received 629 votes, or 53.08% of the total vote, Seth Phung, the Student Government Association election commissioner, said in an email. Her opponent, Hanaa Saidi, received 556 votes, or 46.91%.
In a statement to OU Daily, Corbin wrote that she was thankful for the support she received from both her team and the community throughout the election.
"I am so honored that the OU community voted me as the next CAC Chair! It would not be possible without everyone around me giving their encouragement and strength," Corbin wrote. "I look forward to the future of CAC and just how much change we can SPARK!"
Corbin ran on a platform called SPARK, which stands for selling CAC to everyone, positive progress in finances, accessibility for students and registered student organizations, retention and engagement and knowing the people.
During a forum Tuesday, Corbin said she wanted to increase CAC involvement beyond what it was before the pandemic by accommodating student ideas for events. When asked about funding, she said it should vary based on the event it is for.
“CAC really is a unique organization in how it’s put together,” Corbin said. “So many different people from different backgrounds try to, at the end of the day, create fun events for people to engage with.”
Corbin’s ideas for the upcoming year include promoting CAC during campus tours, securing corporate sponsorships and organizing an appreciation week.
Previously, Corbin served as Speakers Bureau chair for two years. Speakers Bureau brings various speakers to campus for free events.
Corbin will replace the current CAC chair, Katie Trammel.
