Buying breakfast will benefit OU staff members Saturday at Applebee's.
OU’s Organizational Staff Council will host the Flapjack Fundraiser at the Applebee’s on 500 Ed Noble Parkway, according to a mass email from OU’s Staff Senate.
For $6, people can buy a breakfast of pancakes and sausage made by Applebee’s chefs and served by the council’s officers from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m, the council’s vice president Betty Love said.
A part of the OU Staff Senate, the Organizational Staff Council represents OU’s managerial staff and meets once a month to discuss issues with the staff, faculty and students, Love said.
The funds raised at the pancake breakfast will help the families of OU staff members, particularly during the holiday season, the council’s President Justin Daniels said.
Families with financial needs are suggested to the council by staff members, Daniels said. The council contacts these families to see how they might be able to help.
Though in the past, the funds from the annual fall fundraiser have been used to purchase gifts for the families of staff members, they have also helped in the instance of an emergency, Love said.
“Last year we helped a family who could not afford to pay their heating bill and helped to buy propane to heat their house,” Love said. “We can’t do a lot, but we like to help where we can.”
Funds have also been used in the past to help families affected by house fires, tornadoes and other disasters, Love said.
The event is open to the public. Tickets are available for sale in Nuclear Engineering Building, room 112, and at the door, Daniels said.
