The city of Norman will hold a pre-development meeting on Thursday to discuss the $1 billion proposal for a Norman-OU entertainment district in the northern University North Park area.

The application for the pre-development information meeting states that University North Park, LLC plans to rezone the property for the development “in order to facilitate a mixed-use master planned community, with allowances for various residential opportunities, hospitality and entertainment anchors, and compatible commercial uses.”

The entertainment district will include a new arena for OU athletics, housing, shopping and corporate spaces.

The city of Norman will hold a pre-development meeting on Nov. 30 to discuss the $1 billion proposal for a Norman-OU entertainment district in the northern University North Park area.

The proposed location for the district is planned at Rock Creek Road and 24th Avenue Northwest. Team Norman, city and university leaders first proposed the entertainment district on Sept. 6.

On Nov. 14, the Norman City Council formed a committee to examine the creation of one or more tax increment finance districts in the northern University North Park area to fund the entertainment district.

Pre-development meetings are required for property owners seeking to undertake certain land use actions that could impact surrounding properties. These meetings allow applicants and neighboring property owners to informally discuss proposals and air concerns.  

The pre-development discussion will be held on Thursday from 6 to 6:30 p.m. in council chambers of the Norman Municipal Complex at 201 W. Gray St.
