Boeing, a multinational aircraft manufacturer, awarded a $125,000 grant to support Norman Public Schools’ Oklahoma Aviation Academy.
The Oklahoma Aviation Academy program was established in partnership with OU, Moore Norman Technology Center and other private and public partners. The academy focuses on a science, technology, engineering, arts and math curriculum. It incorporates Tango Flight’s aircraft-construction curriculum, civil air patrol leadership training and Project Lead The Way engineering courses.
A Friday press release states that NPS will use the funding to enhance learning and student experiences at the academy.
NPS Superintendent Nick Migliorino thanked Boeing for its investment.
“We are incredibly grateful to Boeing for their continued partnership and generosity,” Migliorino wrote in the release. “Their investment helps us inspire and equip students to become the next leaders and innovators in Oklahoma’s growing aerospace sector.”
In October 2024, NPS broke ground on the academy’s new building, which is expected to finish construction in 2026. The new building is expected to hold up to 700 students and will be located at the Max Westheimer Airport.
The release states that since 2022, Boeing has invested $450,000 in the program, and the academy has grown from 97 to nearly 300 students.
Terry Adams, director for the Oklahoma Aviation Academy, said the partnership is meaningful and transformative for the program.
“Their investment helps us connect students’ classroom learning with real-world experiences that spark passion and open doors to future careers,” Adams wrote in the release.
