It’s the most wonderful time of the year — the Red River Showdown, that is. This weekend, thousands of Sooners will flock to the Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas to watch OU play longtime rival the University of Texas, now both in the Southeastern Conference.
While not every fan can get a ticket, there are plenty of watch parties both in Oklahoma and Texas.
Oklahoma Watch Parties
For those watching from Oklahoma, The Jones Assembly restaurant in Oklahoma City is hosting all day specials, including “bevo burgers” and corny dogs. They will play the game on every big screen. Customers can book a table for brunch and stay all day to watch the historic rivalry.
Bar Twenty6 Lounge in Oklahoma City is hosting a watch party from 1- 6 p.m. featuring food, drink specials and 16 TVs available to watch the game on. Entry to the watch party is free.
In Norman, restaurant and beer garden The Standard will host a party starting at 11 a.m. Accommodating up to 300 guests, the restaurant has a spacious dining hall and outdoor patio with ample seating and TVs. Specials include $5 margaritas, $4 domestic draft beers and $3 shots.
In Tishomingo, former OU football player Jamelle Holieway will host a watch party at 2 p.m. at The Doghouse at Ole Red Tishomingo. Attendees can get an exclusive meet and greet with Holieway, an opportunity to hear tales from his career and food and drink specials while enjoying the game. Tickets can be purchased here. Doors open at 1:30 p.m.
Texas Watch Parties
For those watching from Texas, whether they’re traveling to celebrate the game without a ticket or residing there, there’s no shortage of events.
Visit the AT&T Discovery District in Dallas from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for food, drinks, live music and to watch the game on the 5,400 square foot lawn. Tickets can be purchased here.
Also in Dallas, sports bar Happiest Hour will host its Ultimate Tailgate Party, with doors open at 10 a.m. The bar will have over 40 big screen TVs, LED screens, live music, drinks and food including foot-long mozzarella sticks for an ultimate game day experience. People can watch from inside, on the patio or the lawn. Tickets can be purchased here.
Sports bar Over Under is hosting a free entry party starting at 11 a.m. featuring live DJs, giveaways, food specials such as Sooner Sauce Wings and drink specials like beer buckets. There will also be a field goal kicking competition for a chance to win free wings for a year.
