Want to mentor incoming first-year students? The Office of First-Year Learning & Engagement is currently in the season of recruiting students to serve in our next cohort of University College Peer Teaching Assistants (PTA) for the 2024-2025 academic year!The PTA program for University College places sophomores, juniors, and seniors in the classroom as peer mentors for UCOL courses (Foundations for College Learning, Strategies for Success, and UC Seminars). These students play an integral part in assisting our first-year students in a successful transition to college and get to serve as a peer mentor and resource to their class both inside and outside of the classroom.PTAs assist students in successful transition to OU in a variety of ways, including serving as peer mentors, modeling positive academic habits, assisting first-year students in becoming acclimated to OU's campus and resources, and various other aspects aimed at assisting first-year students in creating success at OU. This is a great learning opportunity for those who want to gain more experience in being a leader, serving as a mentor, and gaining valuable education and teaching experience in a classroom.TIME COMMITMENTUCOL PTAs should expect an average weekly time commitment of about 2-5 hours/week.APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:-       Minimum 3.0 OU Cumulative GPA.-       Must be an undergraduate student at OU with sophomore standing at minimum going into the Fall 2024 semester.-       Successful previous completion of Foundations for College Learning, Strategies for Success, or other comparable experience.-       Must be available to serve as a PTA for Fall 2024 and Spring 2025.-       Available to attend the required trainings dates listed on the application. APPLICATION LINKhttp://link.ou.edu/ucolptaAPPLICATION DEADLINE:April 1st, 2024 at 11:59 PM CSTWANT TO LEARN MORE?Attend one of our info sessions or visit our table in the Union to learn more about being a UCOL PTA!
