New OU visual arts exhibit reflects visiting artist's Mexican, Irish cultural heritage

Lightwell Gallery

The Lightwell Gallery at the School of Visual Arts. The gallery will host a sound-based exhibit by artist Juliacks from Oct. 8 to Nov. 2.

A new exhibition at the Lightwell Gallery in the OU School of Visual Arts opened March 5 and will run through March 30.

The gallery will host an opening reception from 57 p.m. March 6, with a talk from the visiting artist, Morgan Page, at 5:30 p.m.

Page created the exhibition, “Capas,” to reflect her Mexican and Irish cultural heritage. Much of her work was inspired by the family heirlooms Page was given by her great aunt, as well as textiles Page found on visits to Mexico and Ireland.

The exhibit consists mostly of screenprints and digital illustrations, many of which are laid over with photographs or hand stitches. “Capas” means “layers” in Spanish.

“Capas” will be on display until March 30 at the Lightwell Gallery at the OU School of Visual Arts at 520 Parrington Oval. Admission to the gallery is free.

More information is available at the School of Visual Arts’ website.
