PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose
fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning
or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke.

Two former OU athletes will be honored by the Oklahoma Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in October.

Kelly Gregg and Rex Edgar will receive the Lifetime Service to Wrestling award, which is given to coaches, officials and others who contribute to the sport for 20 years or more.

Gregg will receive the Outstanding American award, along with the Lifetime Service award. The Outstanding American award is given to those who have succeeded in other areas, but credit their success to wrestling.

Gregg was a wrestling and football star at Edmond North High School, winning three state championships and holding a career record of 90-4. He was named the Defensive Player of the Year by The Daily Oklahoman as a senior in 1994. After high school, Gregg played football for OU and was named All-Big 12 player his junior and senior years.

The Cincinnati Bengals drafted Gregg in the sixth round of the NFL Draft. He played for the Bengals, Baltimore Ravens, Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs in his 13 year NFL career. Gregg won Super Bowl XXXV with the Ravens. He now co-hosts a radio show on 107.7 The Franchise in Oklahoma City.

Edgar was a successful wrestler at Perry High School. After high school, he wrestled at OU for three years on scholarship. Edgar was the Big 7 Champion at 167 pounds and an All-American, placing third at the NCAA Tournament. He was also a member of the 1957 NCAA Championship team.

Edgar returned to Perry High School to coach from 1959-1969. He won six state championships and 24 individual state championships. Edgar was named Coach of the Year in 1963, 1964, 1965 and 1967.

Edgar went on to become the Vice President and Manager of Trust Operations at the Bank of Oklahoma. He coached five more years after accepting his position at the Bank of Oklahoma. Edgar retired in 2004, but continues to support Perry High School wrestling according to a press release.
