No. 1 OU women’s gymnastics (12-0-1, 7-0 SEC) defeated No. 15 Auburn (2-9, 0-7 SEC) 197.975-196.150 on Friday at the Lloyd Noble Center.

After a big win over No. 2 LSU last week, the Sooners had a lighter matchup this week, with Auburn yet to win a meet in Southeastern Conference play. OU dominated throughout the meet, outperforming the Tigers on every event and clinching the SEC regular-season championship for the second year in a row with its performance.

Here are three takeaways:

SEC champions

OU clinched a solo win of the SEC regular-season championship for the first time after splitting the honor with LSU last year.

“For them to earn this (championship) is huge for the University of Oklahoma, and (is) something they should be extremely proud of,” head coach K.J. Kindler said.

After falling to LSU in the SEC Championship last year, the Sooners will look to rebound and win that title as well in 2026.

OU’s consistency

OU recorded only one score below 9.85 during the meet.

The Sooners consistently posted high scores, which made up for them having no scores above a 9.95. In contrast, Auburn counted 12 scores below a 9.85, which gave the Sooners their largest margin of victory in SEC play this season.

Sophomore Addison Fatta won the all-around during the meet, with a score of 39.500. Sophomore Lily Pederson was a major part of the Sooners’ consistency as well, with a 9.95 on bars and a 9.9 on floor.

Kindler, though, said the Sooners have even more depth than they’ve shown so far this season.

“We’re really looking forward to showcasing some more of our depth in the next few weeks,” Kindler said. “We have two people basically just fighting to get into that floor lineup, and they are so close.” 

Bars improvement

Over the last two meets, the Sooners have considerably improved their performance on bars. What was once their weakest event has become a team strength. 

OU followed up a score of 49.600 on the event last week against LSU with a 49.550 against Auburn for two of its three highest bars scores of the season. The Sooners stuck five of their six landings on the event. Pederson has led the way for OU on bars in the last two meets, scoring 9.95 in back-to-back weeks.

“I always think that landings are hugely important,” Kindler said. “When you’re sticking five landings out of six, it gives you a little leeway on the bar.”

Bars tied for the Sooners’ best performance of the night, with the team scoring a 49.550 on beam as well.

Next, the Sooners will face Arkansas at 6:45 p.m. on March 6 in Fayetteville on SEC Network+.
