Oklahoma will play its first Southeastern Conference game of the 2025 season Saturday when it hosts Auburn at Gaylord Family–Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
The Sooners are 3-0 after nonconference wins over Illinois State, Michigan and Temple. Under third-year coach Brent Venables, OU has allowed just 19 points through the first three weeks while scoring 101.
The matchup also carries extra weight after last season’s meeting. Oklahoma defeated Auburn 27-21 in 2024 at Jordan-Hare Stadium, a game that featured two late touchdowns from the Sooners to pull away in the fourth quarter.
The quarterback storyline adds intrigue, as Auburn transfer Jackson Arnold returns to Norman to face his former team. Arnold has thrown for 501 yards and rushed for 192 through three games. OU redshirt junior quarterback John Mateer, making his first SEC start, has totaled 944 passing yards and 161 rushing yards in the same span.
Auburn enters the contest 3-0 with wins over Baylor, Ball State and South Alabama. The Tigers are led by second-year coach Hugh Freeze, who is seeking his first win against a ranked opponent with Auburn this season.
Saturday will also mark the first time ESPN’s SEC Nation has broadcast from Norman. The pregame show will lead into the nationally televised matchup on ABC.
