No. 2 OU women’s gymnastics defeated No. 7 Missouri on Friday by a score of 197.425-196.925.
OU fell behind early in their second meet of the season after a fall in their first rotation on bars. The Sooners took the lead in their second rotation, vault, and pulled away to beat the Tigers.

Excellence on the vault
In the week leading up to the meet, head coach K.J. Kindler praised her team’s consistency, and vault was where it showed most with all five scoring gymnasts posting a score of 9.9 or higher.
The Sooners took a step up across the board, with sophomore Elizabeth Blessey and junior Keira Wells both adding a tenth or more to their vault scores from OU’s first meet of the season. That made the difference for OU, as they finished with a score of 49.575 on the vault, higher than Missouri’s 49.300.
Weak points
Floor was the only event where the Tigers outperformed the Sooners, with Missouri combining for the three highest scoring individual routines. OU was able to improve its floor total from the first meet of the season, as freshman Ella Murphy, freshman Mackenzie Estep, and sophomore Addison Fatta each scored 9.875. However, OU lacked any scores of a 9.9 or above, which would have pulled them closer to the Tigers.
Bars marked the clearest regression for OU from its season opener. Rough landings and conservative scoring — with no routine from either team earning higher than a 9.850 — led to the Sooners posting an overall score of 49.100 on the event, over three tenths lower than their score last week.
High individual scores across events
OU gymnasts took the individual wins on vault, bars, and beam, only losing out on floor. Three Sooners tied for the top vault score, while Murphy took the most points on the bars. As a team, OU posted four of the five highest scores on the event. OU also posted the two highest scores on the beam, led by senior Faith Torrez, who finished first on the event.
Next, the Sooners will face Georgia at 5:45 p.m. Friday at the Lloyd Noble Center on SEC Network.
