Oklahoma (7-1, 4-1 Big 12) debuted at No. 9 in the initial College Football Playoff rankings released for the 2023 season on Tuesday evening.

OU’s No. 9 ranking comes after a 38-33 loss to Kansas last Saturday, its first of the entire season. The Sooners missed out on a spot in 2022’s CFP rankings after going 6-7 in Brent Venables' first season as OU's head coach.
The Sooners are one of five Big 12 teams to land in the top 25. Texas, despite losing to OU 34-30 in the Red River Rivalry on Oct. 7, leads the pack at No. 7, with OU landing two spots below at No. 9, the Jayhawks at No. 21, Oklahoma State at No. 22 and Kansas State at No. 23.
Oklahoma has appeared in the CFP four times since it started in 2018, which is the most of any program other than Alabama, Clemson and Ohio State.
The Sooners are set to take on the Cowboys (6-2, 4-1 Big 12) at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Stillwater. It will be their second top 25 matchup of the 2023 season.
