The Oklahoma City Thunder acquired former OU guard Otega Oweh on day two of the 2026 NBA draft on Wednesday.
Oweh was selected as the 11th pick in the second round, No. 41 overall, by Miami, but the Heat traded his draft rights to the Thunder in exchange for Louisville guard Ryan Conwell.
The Newark, N.J. native spent two seasons in Norman, 2022-24, under head coach Porter Moser before transferring to Kentucky for his final two seasons of college basketball. Oweh’s sophomore year with the Sooners became his breakout season, averaging 11.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.5 steals and an assist. The former four-star posted 4.8 points, 2.1 rebounds and 0.2 assists his freshman year.
At Kentucky Oweh earned all-SEC second team honors in the 2025-26 season and averaged 16.2 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists his junior year and 18.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists his senior season. His collegiate career averages were 13.3 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists over 132 total contests.
Notably, Oweh was OU’s 13th best all-time recruit, at 0.9727, per 247Sports, and was the No. 60 overall prospect in the draft, per ESPN.
Oweh becomes the first former Sooner to be acquired by the Thunder on draft night, as former OU forward Tanner Groves played for the Thunder’s summer league squad in 2023 but was not selected by them.
