Oklahoma (13-6, 6-0 Big 12) swept No. 12 TCU (15-5, 1-5) in a three-game series with a 9-4 win on Sunday at Lupton Baseball Stadium in Fort Worth.

OU head coach Skip Johnson earned his 200th win since taking over as head coach in 2017 Friday night as the Sooners remained undefeated in conference play with a 7-3 victory in their series opener, ending TCU’s 17-game home win streak. Oklahoma’s offense stayed steady at the plate Saturday with a 7-5 showing to clinch the series.

Here are three takeaways from Oklahoma’s series sweep:

Bryce Madron leads OU’s offense

Senior Bryce Madron led Oklahoma’s offense over the weekend, highlighted by a three-run homer Saturday night.

Madron started the weekend strong with a 3 for 4 showing in Friday’s series opener. A timely hit from Madron in the top of the seventh helped add to the Sooners’ four-run inning.

Oklahoma’s offense continued to make necessary plays during its weekend series. After a three-run inning by the Horned Frogs on Saturday night, the Sooners’ bounced back with their second homer of the night off the bat of junior Carter Frederick.

OU capitalized on TCU’s errors in its series finale, notching two runs in the first inning despite recording no hits, as a wild pitch plated Madron.

Redshirt senior Michael Snyder continued to elevate the Sooners’ offense with two home runs over the weekend and an RBI double Sunday afternoon that would help OU sweep the Horned Frogs.

Oklahoma’s defense shines

OU’s defense remained strong against TCU, recording just one error over the weekend.

Senior infielder Anthony Mackenzie led the way for the Sooners defensively with a crucial play in their series opener.

Pettis also guided Oklahoma’s defense to success Sunday afternoon with a diving play to prevent further damage after a TCU home run in the sixth inning.

The Sooners’ defense helped leave 24 runners on base over the weekend and recorded two double plays on Friday night.

Kyson Witherspoon excels on the mound

Sophomore Kyson Witherspoon entered for the Sooners in relief Friday night and dominated on the mound.

Witherspoon entered the weekend with a 1.88 ERA, allowing four runs and 15 hits through 14-plus innings pitched with 11 strikeouts.

The Northwest Florida State College transfer recorded his best performance of the season Friday night, shutting out the Horned Frogs and allowing only three hits through five scoreless innings, finishing the night with eight strikeouts.

Senior Carter Campbell continued the Sooners’ success on the mound Saturday with a five strikeout showing, allowing just one run and two hits to help OU clinch the series against TCU.

Oklahoma’s pitching staff faltered Sunday afternoon, with senior Jamie Hitt giving up four runs and seven hits and no strikeouts through five-plus innings pitched, but senior Carson Atwood and junior Ryan Lambert were able to finish the job.

Next, Oklahoma (13-6) heads home to face Dallas Baptist (15-3) at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at L. Dale Mitchell Park in Norman on ESPN+.
