Sooners’ defensive struggles against the Tigers
The Sooners struggled to stop the Tigers' scoring.
LSU shot 43% from the field compared to OU’s 37%. LSU also shot 44% from the 3-point line compared to OU, which shot 35% from the 3-point line. This also marks the most points scored against the Sooners since their matchup against NC State on Dec. 3.
LSU also outrebounded OU 48 to 39 despite senior center Raegan Beers leading the game with 11. No other Sooners recorded more than six rebounds, while LSU had four players with six or more.
OU also struggled mightily with fouls, recording 23 personal fouls compared to LSU's 15. This posed a threat to the Sooners, as the Tigers shot 85% from the line.
Turnover troubles
The Sooners had poor ball movement in the loss.
They turned the ball over 18 times for the second consecutive game, compared to LSU's 14. Freshman guard Aaliyah Chavez and sophomore forward Caya Smith each led the team with four turnovers, with sophomore guard Zya Vann and junior forward Sahara Williams following close behind with three each.
The Sooners' 18 turnovers against LSU is above their average of 14.9 per game. Freshman guard Aaliyah Chavez leads the team with 3.1 turnovers per game, while junior forward Sahara Williams and sophomore guard Zya Vann are close behind with 2.6 and 2.1 each.
Aaliyah Chavez struggles
Chavez struggled tonight.
Chavez scored only 11 points on 3-for-13 shooting. Her 11 points tonight marks the lowest she has scored this season since her matchup against Eastern Texas A&M. Her 21.4 % from the field is also the worst of the season so far for her. Chavez recorded far below her season averages of 19.2 points per game and 39.9% from the field.
Next, the Sooners will face No. 2 South Carolina (19-1, 5-0 SEC) at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Lloyd Noble Center on ESPN.
