No. 1 OU women’s gymnastics won the Sprouts Collegiate Quad on Saturday with a score of 197.500, defeating No. 2 LSU’s 197.500, No. 4 UCLA’s 197.000 and No. 5 Utah’s 195.900 due to the Sooners’ dropped routines having higher scores than LSU’s.

The Sooners took the lead during their second rotation on bars and looked strong through the rest of the meet. They maintained the lead up until the final rotation, where a late scoring change involving a LSU beam routine led to a tie between the Sooners and Tigers at 197.500.

This is OU women’s gymnastics’ third straight year winning the Sprouts Collegiate Quad, with LSU finishing as the runner-up all three years.

Here are key takeaways:

Freshmen lead the Sooners

Freshmen Ella Murphy and Mackenzie Estep looked strong in their collegiate debuts.

They both filled all-around roles for OU, with Murphy competing on bars and beam and Estep competing on vault, beam and the floor. Murphy scored 9.925 on both events in her collegiate debut, among the top scorers for OU in both. Estep was also consistent, scoring 9.900 on vault and beam each and 9.925 on the floor. Estep’s floor score tied her with Olympic gold medalist Jordan Chiles for the highest scoring floor routine of the event.

Hannah Scheible performs well in return from injury

Junior Hannah Scheible was impressive for the Sooners after missing last season due to an Achilles injury.

Scheible competed as a vault specialist her freshman year and was named a Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association All-American for her performance on vault in 2024. However, Scheible did not compete on the vault to start 2026 and instead made her biggest impact on the beam with a 9.950, tying her for the highest beam score of the meet. She also performed well on the bars with a 9.900.

OU shows strength on the balance beam

OU’s dominance on the beam was apparent.

Utah and others struggled with their first competitive runs of the year, with three falls for the Utes and one for the Bruins. In contrast, OU appeared to be in midseason form. Senior Faith Torrez, who was the 2024 balance beam national champion, scored a 9.950 on the beam for the Sooners. Sophomores Addison Fatta and Lily Pederson also posted good scores, with a 9.850 and a 9.825, respectively. OU finished the rotation with a 49.500, higher than any other school.

Next, the Sooners will face Missouri at 7:45 p.m. on Friday in Columbia, Missouri, on SEC Network.
